Optimisation algorithm for selecting quadratic time-frequency distributions: performance results and calibration

چکیده
A methodology based on a resolution performance measure P for time-frequency distributions (TFDs) [ I ] was defined to optimise TFDs and select the one which results into best concentration of signal components around their instantaneous frequency laws, and best suppression of the interference terms in the time-frequency plane. The algorithm which implements this methodology is described in [I]. In this paper we investigate the performance and robustness of the algorithm for multicomponent signals of linear and non-linear FM laws. We also study its applicability to signals with more-than-two components at different distances from each other, as well as the twc-component signals with non-equal amplitudes of the components’ mainlobes.

Optimisation of the Realisation of Quadratic Discrete Time-Frequency Distributions as a MATLAB Toolbox
An optimised time-frequency signal analysis software tool is presented here as a MATLAB toolbox. This toolbox is implemented using existing and novel methods for a specific class of Time-Frequency Distributions (TFDs) called quadratic TFDs. This is first applied to a TFD called the Wigner-Ville Distribution (WVD), as all other quadratic TFDs can be represented as a smoothed (in both time and fr...
متن کاملBlind Signal Separation Using an Extended Infomax Algorithm
The Infomax algorithm is a popular method in blind source separation problem. In this article an extension of the Infomax algorithm is proposed that is able to separate mixed signals with any sub- or super-Gaussian distributions. This ability is the results of using two different nonlinear functions and new coefficients in the learning rule. In this paper we show how we can use the distribution...

متن کاملAn enhanced reliability-oriented workforce planning model for process industry using combined fuzzy goal programming and differential evolution approach
This paper draws on the “human reliability” concept as a structure for gaining insight into the maintenance workforce assessment in a process industry. Human reliability hinges on developing the reliability of humans to a threshold that guides the maintenance workforce to execute accurate decisions within the limits of resources and time allocations. This concept offers a worthwhile point of de...
متن کاملParameter selection for optimising time-frequency distributions and measurements of time-frequency characteristics of non-stationary signals
Selecting a time-frequency distribution (TFD) which represents a signal in an optimal way is commonly done by visually comparing plots of different TFDs. This paper presents a procedure that allows the analyst to perform the same task in an automatic way. Using the resolution performance measure for TFDs, the procedure optimises all distributions considered and selects the one which results int...
